About the role

In this unique role, you will step outside the traditional clinical space and focus on practical interventions rather than clinical assessments. You will be joining a multidisciplinary team of Allied Health professionals and Peer workers and play a pivotal role in delivering efficient, effective, and hands-on therapeutic services, with plenty of opportunities to connect and engage in fun activities with young people.

The position is based at Frontyard in King St, Melbourne, with community outreach to young people also as a feature of the role.

Your duties include:

  • Supporting young people (and their families/carers) who are experiencing difficulties associated with mental illness and problematic substance use
  • Providing secondary consultation and advice when required
  • Providing age and developmentally appropriate individualised, assessment and support to young people who experience dual diagnosis presentations
  • Ensuring that all support provided to young people is recovery oriented, trauma informed, healing-oriented, culturally safe and evidence-based

Our ideal candidate:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Nursing / Social work / Psychology / Mental Health and eligibility to join the relevant professional body (including AHPRA, AASW, APA)
  • Proof of qualification to be sighted
  • At least three years of mental health and/or AOD and/or Dual Diagnosis sector experience, particularly with young people within marginalised communities and/or experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness

All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Police Check, a Working with Children Check (WWCC), complete a Pre - Employment Declaration, evidence of legal rights to work in Australia, and evidence of vaccination against COVID-19 (3 doses). Additionally, some roles will also require current AHPRA registration and/or NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.

Roles that are determined to be Risk Category A or B [staff that have direct and/or indirect contact with body substances and are at higher risk of occupational exposure to infections] will be required to provide evidence of immunisation assessment including Influenza prior to commencement [A] or within 12 weeks of commencement [B]. This is in accordance with the Victorian Minister of Health Mandatory Vaccination Orders for COVID-19 and legislated requirement for influenza vaccination.
